YOUNG DRAGONS
(Grades 3 & 4)

In the Young Dragons Program students who are in Grade 3 & 4 at school will experience an extensive character development, bully buster and stranger danger programs along with comprehensive self defnece and martial arts skills and abilities.
Some of the benefits
Character Development
At this level students are learning a base foundation of listening and focussing skills. They will learn about basic self defence skills while learning how to use their body and listen both at school and at home
Chracter Development Talks
Every month students have a word that is focussed on in class. In every class, instructors will talk to the class about the word of the month, set challenges for the students and give them ways to start or to continue to develop this characteristic in themselves.

Merit Badges
Merit badges are part of the character development program that is part of the Junior Dragons program, this program is continued into Young Dragons but now extra Merit badges are added which can be earned. These badges are for martial arts skills and achievements. These Merit Badges may also be sewn on to student’s uniforms to show not only what they have learnt, but also what they have decided to specialise in.

Achievement Awards
Achievement Awards are a way for instructors to recognise students for stand out achievements and improvements. Students have the chance to be recognised for outstanding effort and awarded at the break up party at the end of the year. This is an award which focusses on the students that have both excelled and accomplished throughout the year and for showing the qualities of a true martial artist.
Self Defence Skills
Students training with Black Dragon Kai in the Junior Dragon program are treated with world class training programs. There are set age appropriate self defence skills that students will learn in each belt rotation cycle (8 cycles over 2 years). These cycles focus not only on specific attacks but also Stranger Danger and Bully Defence. Parents will be able to see what their child will learn through each cycle with a booklet that is presented with each grading.

Sparring Drills
Black Dragon Kai has produced some of the World’s best strikers. These elite competitors developed the skills necessary to perform on the world stage through Sparring Drills. Students in the Young Dragons are introduced to these same skills in a safe and progressive structure. This is to improve their confidence and correct reactions while in a live situation. Students wear the very best safety equipment to ensure protection.

Goal Setting
Throughout a students martial arts training they are exposed to many challenges. It is through these challenges that students start to learn about setting goals and working hard to earn what they want. This attitude becomes part of them; they take it to their life outside martial arts. Many students find their school grades improve, attitudes at home become better and they have the drive to dream big and make these dreams become a reality.
Tags
Tags are stepping stones on the martial arts journey; students are able to earn a tag on their belts if they are able to demonstrate the skills they have been learning. Each tag is colour coded to represent a different skill. Each lesson is focussed on a different skill and students can earn this tag at any stage of a training cycle. Tags let students, parents and instructors easily see their progression and how close they are to achieving their next belt. (Students need to earn all 8 Skill Tags to progress at gradings).

Belts
Belts are the larger steps in this journey. At the beginning they progress through Yellow and Orange Belts, and then the more advanced students will move into the senior ranks of Green and Blue (the same levels as the adults progress through). These belt testings help students learn the value of hard work and joy felt when they receive something they have worked hard to earn.

Gradings
When students are ready to move to the next level they are invited to attend a grading along side other students from their club as well as other Black Dragon Kai clubs. Students are encouraged to bring family and friends to watch them perform their different techniques and be awarded with their belts and certificates. Students develop confidence in themselves through performing for their loved ones and an understanding that they should be proud of their accomplishments.
