The First Muay Thai Champion of Black Dragon Kai was Duane “Shadow” Sheppard. “Shadow” won the ISKA Qld Lightweight Title on August the 14^th 2005 by defeating top ranked Rocky White with a Knock Out in the 4^th Round. He then went on to consolidate his Queensland Champion status by defeating Gem Ozmegelic for the WMC Qld Title. 

Duane then went and stayed a total of nearly four years in Thailand, the highlight being to fight at the Mecca of Muay Thai - Lumpini Stadium.

He is currently serving in the Australian Navy and acts a cornerman for Black Dragon Kai whenever he is in the country.
